Investing in a hearing aid is something very personal. The device is adapted to your hearing needs, made to the shape of your ear and to your listening preferences. Therefore, the process of obtaining a hearing instrument consists of several steps to ensure an optimum fit in all respects.

The following steps are involved in obtaining a hearing instrument:
1. Discovering the hearing impairment
2. Contacting our offices
3. Performing an Audiological evaluation
4. Selecting of your hearing instrument
5. Fitting of hearing instrument
6. Adjusting

Step1. Discovering the hearing impairment: Often, it begins with a feeling that one’s hearing is not as it should be. This feeling may originate from situations where one has to ask for sentences to be repeated or when other people complain that the television is too loud while we regard it as comfortable. Take a self test.

Step 2. Contacting our offices: Contact the Caribe Hearing Center most convenient for you and make an appointment to have your hearing tested.

3. Performing an Audiological evaluation: A case history and an otoscopic exam are performed, to insure that there are no external problems, such as wax or infection, in which case, a physician’s referral is appropriate. Next audiometric testing (hearing test) is performed by our staff of Hearing Instrument Specialists (HIS) or Audiologists. This exam may indicate several things: no hearing loss is present, a referral to a physician is required, or that a hearing loss is present. In case a hearing loss is present, our Specialists present you with the technological possibilities that would fit your needs.

4. Selecting of your hearing instrument: Your hearing loss, the shape of your ear canals, your lifestyle needs, taste and budget are all taken into account to make the right decision concerning your hearing instruments and their technology. Once the type and style of hearing aid has been selected, our Specialist will take an ear impression, an accurate replica of your ear canal and the hearing aid order is placed.

5. Fitting of hearing instrument: Once your new hearing instruments are ready, our Specialists will fit them into your ears and program them to your specific hearing loss and your listening preferences. Additionally, he/she will inform you about the handling – how to insert and operate them and how to adjust the volume. You will also become familiar with their maintenance – how to change the batteries, clean and dry the instruments, etc.. Finally, he/she might present you with some hearing examples and give you more details about the way your hearing instruments react in different situations. Now, you can return home with your new devices.

6. Adjusting: Once you have become accustomed to the hearing instruments you will have an idea as to what could still be improved. You might want to have certain settings changed. Make a note of the situations, which you think could be improved, and visit our centers to have your hearing instruments fine-tuned accordingly. Your hearing aids will be fine-tuned according to your experiences. Our Specialists are available to answer any questions you may have, and address your concerns accordingly. As people adapt at different paces, fine tuning sessions are encouraged as needed.

Whenever you have questions, do not hesitate to contact our Specialist’s, who will be happy to assist you.
